The Gear

If you’re looking to get into photography or videography — with a big camera or your phone — this guide should help.

Main Camera Gear

The Camera

I use the Fujifilm X-T20* with it’s original kit lens, the XC16-55mm f/3.5. I love Fujifilm’s colors, and the RAW format is really easy to work with.

*Pictured and linked above is the newer, Fujifilm X-T30.

The Lens

When I am not using the 16-55mm kit lens, I’m using this XF35mm f/2.0 lens. It’s extremely sharp, and the open aperture makes for beautiful portraits.

The Bag

Storing my camera, lenses, and all other accessories I need is the Wandrd Essential Camera Cube. I attached a (separately purchased) strap to it to wear the bag, and the side pocket comes in handy.

Mobile Gear

The Phone

iPhone 12 Pro. Pacific Blue. 128GB. I love it. All 3 lenses (with the additional LiDAR sensor) make for amazing photos and videos, even at night. I started taking photography seriously on iPhone X, and I still rely on my phone all the time.

The Case

The Moment Thin Case in Indigo. Thin yet protective, works with their lens mounts, and it’s even biodegradable. An option with MagSafe is available as well, though the original case is thin enough for basic MagSafe charging.

The Lens Mount

With the Moment cases, simply pop the black bezel out and pop in this drop-in lens mount to use Moment lenses with your compatible device! (Lens mount pictured above for the iPhone 12 Pro, other models available).

The Wide

At 18mm, the Moment Wide Lens brings that unique wide-angle look, but subtly enough to differentiate from their Fisheye Lens (which I don’t own, but might get in the future!). I stack this lens on my iPhone’s standard lens, as it allows for a better image quality than the native ultrawide lens on my phone.

The Tele

At 58mm, the Moment Tele Lens zooms in your phone’s camera 2x for that portrait-like look. Stack it on your phone’s 2x or 2.5x tele lens, and you now have a 4x or 5x optical zoom. It’s easily a go-to lens for me.

The Anamorphic

Undeniably cinematic. Moment’s Anamorphic Lens brings the big-cinema look to your phone, adding to that look with gorgeous lens flares and bokeh. Easily one of my favorite lenses I’ve played with. Also available as a more subtle Gold Flare variant.

Miscellaneous

The Filters

The Moment CineBloom 20% Diffusion Filter is so. fun. It diffuses light to give that hazy, film-like effect on your photos and videos without any editing.

I also protect all my lenses with a cheap UV filter. It doesn’t affect the image, and I don’t have to use a lens cap. Win-win.

Pro tip: Get the largest size filter you need to attach to your largest lens, and use step-up rings to use it on your lenses with smaller thread sizes.

The Storage

I honestly couldn’t find a cheaper yet reliable SD card than these bad boys. I have 2 64GB cards, which is nice for when I have two shoots in a short time frame and want to keep photos separate. For usually around or under $10, you can’t go wrong.

I also use the Samsung T5 SSD 500GB for storing all my big RAW photos when I’m done with them. It’s on sale often, too!

The Studio Stuff

I looked for a while for a sturdy yet fairly inexpensive tripod, and found the GEEKOTO 77” Tripod on Amazon. It too is on sale often!

I use Savage Seamless paper for my backdrops for studio photography. If you’re pretty good with photoshop, you can get away with changing the colors in post!.

You can use any basic backdrop stand or light stands, just make sure they’re sturdy enough!
